Some of our Fridays for Future members who took part in Extinction Rebellion Wellington’s recent Week of Action (in October), made it into an article in the online magazine The Conversation.

About Fridays For Future

Outside Fonterra’s office at Midland Park between 12:30 and 1:30 every Friday

We are in the middle of a very fast moving revolution. The lives of our youngest are at stake.

The government has made steps in the right direction, but it still allows fossil fuel exploration to continue.

Through ACC and KiwiSaver investments it pumps 1.5 billion dollars into fossil fuels.

It has also refused to recognise the real cost of our highest emitters.

The move to renewable energy is happening too slowly and our dependence on gas is not being addressed.

These things prevent us from getting to safety.

A responsible government could address these things. It needs to be told.

Come and join Fridays For Future.

Let’s get on with changing the future!

The new report proposes our country buys its way out of excess greenhouse gases (GHG) through Emissions Trading. In the face of the escalating GHG  emanating from Aotearoa, activists from 350.org, XR, GenZero, Fridays For Future, and the Fossil Free State Sector Coalition, came together, to look at possible steps to turn the Juggernaut of the current emergency around.
“Seeing cars driving over a chalk image of our Planet is more than a metaphor” says Francesca Pouwer of Fridays for Future "we put multi-coloured signs all over our city’s intersections last night. Sadly, the chalk images are washed away, but the serious points about what must be done, remain. They are summarised in statements like “Too Much Emission Here”, “Less Cow Now” and “Decarbonise Decolonise” - these are things we must do to address necessary changes to avert what looms in the future".

A study published in 2020 in Environmental Health A study published in 2020 in Environmental Health Perspectives looked at the greenhouse gas emissions of different foods and dietary patterns.

The University of Otago researchers developed a New Zealand-specific food emissions database for 346 commonly eaten foods . The database calculated the total emissions for each food and considered each part of the food’s lifecycle, such as farming and processing, transportation, packaging, warehouse and distribution and refrigeration needs for chilled products. #farmplantsnotanimals #toomanycows #goplantbased #fridaysforfuture_wlg
